Prior to this he was working in the Army Medical Corps for 28 years (1965-1993), retiring at the rank of full Colonel in 1993, after which he established the Department of Nephrology in Escorts Research & Referral Hospital. He conducted the First Kidney Transplant of the armed forces at Army Hospital, Delhi in 1991.
