Where to Stay in Delhi for Medical Treatment — A Practical Guide

Delhi has thousands of hotels and serviced apartments. For a patient recovering from cardiac surgery or a family spending three weeks in India during a transplant recovery, not all of them are equally appropriate. Location relative to the hospital matters. Building facilities — a lift, accessible bathrooms, a kitchen for longer stays — matter. Price matters, because the accommodation is in addition to hospital costs.

This guide covers the practical options near Prime Medical's Delhi hospitals.

Near Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Sarita Vihar

Apollo Delhi is in Sarita Vihar, South Delhi — approximately 18 to 25 kilometres from Indira Gandhi International Airport depending on the route.

Serviced apartments: Serviced apartments: Several serviced apartment complexes operate near Apollo in the Sarita Vihar and Jasola areas. Options from basic studio apartments (USD 25 to USD 45 per night) to larger one-bedroom units suited to longer stays (USD 13 to USD 35 per night). These typically include a small kitchen — important for families staying three to six weeks who want to prepare their own food

Hotel options: Radisson Blu, ibis, and similar mid-range international hotels operate in the surrounding areas. Hotel rooms from USD 50 to USD 80 per night. Hotels are convenient for short stays; serviced apartments are more practical for extended ones.

Apollo's own facilities: Apollo Delhi has a guest house and accommodation coordination service for international patients. The Africa desk can assist in arranging accommodation near the hospital. Ask Prime Medical to facilitate through the Africa desk coordination.

Transit from IGI Airport: Approximately 40 to 60 minutes by road depending on traffic. The Delhi Metro's Violet Line has a station (Jasola Apollo) near the hospital — faster during peak traffic but not practical with significant luggage.

Near Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket

Max Saket is also in South Delhi, approximately three kilometres from Indraprastha Apollo. Both are accessible from the same general accommodation area.

Saket district: Saket is one of South Delhi's more developed commercial and residential areas. Multiple serviced apartment options within one to two kilometres of the hospital. Similar pricing range to the Apollo area.

Select Citywalk Mall proximity: Saket has one of Delhi's major shopping centres nearby — practically useful for patients and families on extended stays who need to access supermarkets, pharmacies, and essentials without a long journey.

The Lodhi, Lodi Road: A high-end hotel option for families with more budget. Approximately four kilometres from Max Saket. Luxurious but significantly more expensive — USD 200+ per night.

Near Artemis Hospital and Fortis FMRI, Gurugram

Gurugram (Gurgaon) has its own accommodation landscape, distinct from central Delhi. Both Artemis and Fortis FMRI are in the Sector 44 / Golf Course Road / DLF Phase areas.

Gurugram serviced apartments: Gurugram's corporate-focused economy means extensive serviced apartment stock, particularly in DLF City and Golf Course Road areas. Options from USD 15 to USD 40 per night for studio and one-bedroom serviced apartments. Well-equipped, reliable infrastructure, and closer to the hospitals than most Delhi accommodation options.

Proximity to hospitals: Artemis Hospital is in Sector 51; Fortis FMRI is in Sector 44. Multiple accommodation options within one to three kilometres. Gurugram hospitals are 30 to 45 minutes from IGI Airport — shorter than the Sarita Vihar Apollo journey in most traffic conditions.

Amenities: Gurugram's development means good restaurant options including international and halal food, pharmacies, diagnostic centres, and supermarkets accessible without long travel.

Recommended approach: Prime Medical coordinates accommodation near Artemis and FMRI for patients and families. Several serviced apartment complexes have established relationships with both hospitals for patient families.

Practical Tips for Longer Stays (3+ Weeks)

Choose a serviced apartment with a kitchen. For stays of three weeks or more, hotel food becomes expensive and monotonous. A small kitchen allows the family to prepare familiar food — important for patients on dietary restrictions and for families who eat halal.

Check for a lift. Post-operative patients — particularly cardiac and orthopaedic — cannot manage stairs safely in the early recovery period. Ground floor access or a building with a reliable lift is essential.

Accessible bathroom. A patient who has had knee replacement, hip replacement, or cardiac surgery needs a bathroom they can use safely. A walk-in shower rather than a step-over bath, grab rails, and enough space to manage with a walking frame if needed.

Proximity over price. The difference between accommodation five minutes from the hospital and accommodation thirty minutes away seems small until you have an outpatient appointment every two days for three weeks. Being close to the hospital reduces the burden on the recovering patient significantly.

WhatsApp connectivity. India SIM cards are available at all airports and allow cheap data and WhatsApp calling. Get one on arrival and use it for communication throughout the stay.

Food Near Major Hospitals

Halal food: Available near all major hospitals in South Delhi and Gurugram. Delhi has a large Muslim population and halal restaurants are common across the city. Near Apollo in Sarita Vihar, halal options are accessible within a short drive. Near Artemis and FMRI in Gurugram, halal restaurants are available in the Sector 31 and Sohna Road areas.

Hospital cafeterias: Apollo, Max, Artemis, and FMRI all have hospital cafeterias with international patient menus. Breakfast and simple meals are available. Not suitable as the sole food source for a three-week stay but useful for daily convenience.

Supermarkets: Big Bazaar, Reliance Fresh, and various smaller supermarkets operate near all major hospital areas. Familiar staples — rice, lentils, eggs, vegetables, halal meat from dedicated sections — are available.
