Dr Vairakkani R is a distinguished nephrologist with extensive academic and clinical expertise. He earned his MBBS from Madurai Medical College, followed by an MD in General Medicine from the same institution. He further pursued a DM in Nephrology from Government Stanley Medical College and later obtained a DrNB in Nephrology.

Dr Vairakkani is proficient in performing complex procedures such as central vein catheterization, Permcath insertion, renal biopsy, CAPD catheter insertion, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and renal transplantation. His areas of interest encompass acute kidney injury, preventive nephrology, glomerulonephritis, hemodialysis, and renal transplantation.

An active researcher, he has published several notable works, including original articles, review articles, and case reports in esteemed journals like the Indian Journal of Nephrology and the Brazilian Journal of Nephrology. His groundbreaking research on the frusemide stress test earned him the Best Paper Award at the 50th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Nephrology in 2019. He also secured the first prize in the Quiz Competition at the 39th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Nephrology Southern Chapter in 2019. Additionally, he received the 3rd SVIMS University Gold Medal for his essay on Metabolome and Microbiome in Kidney Disease.
